Refrigerators are fairly low maintenance and problems can easily be prevented by doing some simple recommended services. Firstly cleaning your refrigerators condenser coils at least a few times per year. Next be sure to change your ice maker water filter regularly. Also double check the doors are closed all the way. Always keep the door alarm active if your refrigerator has this feature. Finally replace refrigerator air filters and use baking soda regularly to reduce odor. Not all refrigerators have air filters but if you have this feature be sure to change the at least twice per year.
Oven use and care is very important and will help to limit costly repairs to your oven. Always have proper ventilation while operating your oven. Needless to say it is important to run your exhaust while baking in your oven. Carefully avoid moisture build up aroud the oven controls. Finally keeping your oven clean can sometimes seem difficult. Never use self clean unless you want to have a costly repair. Simply use some good old fashioned elbow grease.
Range's often have problems due to lack of use and care. Similar to built in ovens be sure to have proper ventilation when using your range. Again avoiding moisture in the control area is very important. Also as stated previously be sure to keep oven clean. Keep burners on range top clean. Used approved glass cleaner for electric glass top ranges. Always keep drip pans under coil burner range cooktops clean. As well as keeping gas cooktop range burners clean and clear of grease and grim. Proper care for your range cooktop will reduce range repairs.
Ultimately built in cooktops are failry maintenance free. As mentioned when discussing gas and electric range cooktops simply keep the cooktop burners clean. Again used only approved cleaners for glass cooktops. Also be sure to keep drip pans clean for coil burner cooktops. Due to most gas cooktop repairs being caused by spills and boil overs during use of you gas cooktop. Always avoid allowing spills on the gas burners. Keeping the gas burners clean is the most important thing to do to avoid unnecessary repair. Lastly be sure when cleaning your gas cooktop not to crack the ceramic ignitor by scraping or cleaning around the electrode. These ignitors are fairly reliable unless the ceramic is cracked.
Certainly washing machines have many different styles and various designs. Similarly to our other appliances there is limited maintenance needed. In fact top load washers simply need to have cleaner ran through them regularly. There are a variety of washing machine cleaners available at you local retailer. Then you have front load washers. Of coarse running cleaner through your front load washer will prevent odor from building up in tub. But you will also need to keep door seal clean as well as leaving door cracked open when not in use. Lastly the drain filter needs to be cleaned at least once every 2 months.
Unfortunatly dryers are one of the most high maintenance appliance we have in our homes. Lack of maintenance to our dryer presents a risk of fire. When a dryer builds up excessive lint in the dryer cabinet it may catch fire. Having you exhaust and lint filter housing cleaned on your dryer regularly will minimize the likelihood of needing repair. It is recommended to have your dryer and exhaust cleaned at least one every 2-3 years. In the event your dryer is hot to the touch or making unusual noise you should stop using the dryer immediately and call for service.
When it comes to maintenance on your dishwasher it will vary based on make and model of the dishwasher. Most newer dishwashers have removable filters that should be cleaned weekly. Similar to washers your dishwasher will need cleaner ran through it monthly. Again there are several cleaners available for purchase from your local retailer. Another option is to run a small amount of distilled white vinegar through the dishwasher. Strangely enough the best product to help keep dishwasher clean and performing well is the orange powdered drink mix Tang. The main ingredient in Tang is citric acid which helps reduce soap and hard water residues.
Lastly garbage disposals don't need a ton of maintenance either. Despite these units being able to grind up food and waste from our dirty dishes there are some things you need to avoid putting down the disposal. For example never put coffee grinds, egg shells and potato peels in the disposal. Of coarse you need to clean your disposal regularly. Obviously there are several products available for purchase. But you can always cut a lemon into small chunks or even put a mixture of rock salt and ice into the disposal. This will keep the waste grater clean, allowing the unit to grind waste easier and prevent odors inside of disposal.
